MODULE 1 - Exam day!!!
Exam day for Module 1 has now arrived and I am a bit nervous!!
Luckily the teacher tells you what the assessment is going to be on the week before, so that you have all the time to practise at home.
The exam day is just practical in the kitchen and it's like being on any other day, with the difference that you can't chat much with the other students and the teacher passes by your workstation to observe what you are doing (very similar to what happens on 'Great British Bake Off' show).
For the assessment day they ask you to come to the kitchen prepared with the required recipes, all the tools, clean uniform and a 'Work of Plan'.
Module 1 assessment consisted of producing:
- 12 choux buns
- 1 quiche
in just three hours.
You are judged on colour, taste, texture, presentation of the goods and organisation which could either be Poor, Fair or Good.
The final assessment mark goes from Pass, Merit to Distinction.
Your 'Work of Plan' consists of a time schedule of what you're going to do in order to deliver the finished goods within the 3 hours assessment.
On mine I wrote step by step what I needed to do, from picking the right equipment from the kitchen to how much time I needed to tidy up my workstation before presenting my goods for final evaluation.
Below is a copy of my Plan of Work which the teacher was quite impressed with.
Within the three hours I completed the assessment and was marked with a Merit, just because the bottom of my quiche was slightly uncooked and should have stayed in the oven another couple of minutes more. But hey, I'm very satisfied with the results achieved :)
